The rugged coastline and desolate moors of Cornwall provide a rich background for some classics in literature, most notably from Daphne Du Maurier and Winston Graham. Memories of childhood holidays are captured by Sir John Betjeman along with images of how Britain used to be.
A selection are detailed below.
Sir John Betjeman was a frequent visitor to Padstow and is buried near to his home in Trebertherick at St Enodoc Church. His poetry captures a period in Britains recent history more vividly than almost any other. The Betjeman Centre in Wadebridge is his lasting memorial in the area.

Jamaica Inn, is one of Daphne Du Mauriers classic novels set near Padstow on Bodmin Moor. Escapism to the days of smuggling! Du Maurier wrote many novels and short stories set in Cornwall and she lived in Cornwall for most of her life. Many of her stories have been made into successful films, including 'The Birds' by Alfred Hitchcock.
